Fox Lake News: Village of Fox Lake 14th Annual Cardboard Boat Race Village of Fox Lake 14th Annual Cardboard Boat Race ================================================================================ Andy Gehron on 08/22/2011 17:26:00 Sunday, August 21, the Village of Fox Lake Parks and Recreation Department held their 14th Annual Cardboard Boat Race at the Lakefront Park, located at 71 Nippersink Blvd. Three categories were established for both On-site boat building and Off-site boat building. They were: children ages 10 and under, children ages 11 to 14, and adult. Medals were given to all children that assist with the boat building and race in the boat. Trophies were awarded for 1st, 2nd, Best of Show, and Fastest Sinking in each category. There were no restrictions on length of boat or crew size. The following guidelines were required for both on-site and off-site boat building: ON-SITE BOAT BUILDING: *Boats must be built from ONLY the materials supplied in our official kits. You may bring your own decorating applications. Size and shape of your boat is restricted by the amount of cardboard and duct tape included in each kit. *No Foam – No Plastic – No Wood *Cardboard, duct tape and paint are the only materials to be used in constructing your boat. OFF SITE BOAT BUILDING *No Foam – No Plastic – No Wood *Cardboard, duct tape and paint are the only materials used *LIFE PRESERVERS ARE MANDATORY! PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN! Please bring your own oars or use your hands to propel boat. A Waiver and Release Of All Claims was also required from all participants.
