Five silver Morgan dollars Four uncirculated Kennedy half-dollars, each worth around $4. Three 1/10th-of-an-ounce 1980 South African Krugerrands, each worth around $140. Two 1935 silver certificate dollar bills, series E and F, each worth up to $7. One 1992 $50 gold piece, which at one ounce would be worth its, value plus the current value of gold per ounce, which is around $1,400. Also collected along with more standard currency were a buffalo-head nickel, Ben Franklin silver half-dollars, and a one-ounce Mexican silver dollar dropped in area kettles. The Red Kettle campaign began on Nov. 12 and will continue through Jan. 31. The tradition of finding some gold mixed in with holiday collections has become as anticipated and as famous as the tradtional Red Kettles themselves.
