Cops on the Rooftop
The Fox Lake Police Department had no problem getting early morning volunteers this past Friday, May 20th at 5 AM. The officers were up on the roof of the local Dunkin’ Donuts, supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. “This is the 4th year that Fox Lake has participated in Cops on the Rooftop”, states Chief Mike Behan. This year is also the 25th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois, which is the largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.
The Village of Fox Lake, along with the Fox Lake Police Department, also support the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois, by hosting a Polar Plunge. Lt. Jeff Norris, who has been active in the Polar Plunge for other communities, was asked to coordinate an event for Fox Lake during the Centennial Anniversary of the Village of Fox Lake in 2007. “Every year, we get more ‘plungers’ to support this wonderful program”, Lt. Norris states. “This year we had over 200 who registered to plunge into the icy waters”. Lt. Norris, who also serves on the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics State Committee, says that Fox Lake Police will proudly participate in the actual Torch Run to open the summer Special Olympic Games this June.
